Community

Macroom FC prides itself on the service we provide to the local community. We are very conscious of our responsibilities in being one of the largest sports clubs in the area. We aim to support our community where we can, by being good neighbours and having a positive impact as a club. Macroom is becoming an increasingly more sought after place to live. The building of the Macroom Bypass project is fantastic for the local area and tremendous work is being done. The rebuild of the Briery Gap theatre and cinema is another brilliant addition to Macroom. We feel our Astro pitch project fits perfectly with the positive direction Macroom town and the surrounding area is taking. To have a state of the art, full sized, floodlit Astro in the middle of Macroom town will be a fantastic addition to the local infrastructure. Being conscious of our role, as part of the Astro project, a community walkway will be built around the Astro pitch. This will give the general public the opportunity to avail of a new and safe walking route in Macroom. We have already improved the venue with the building of a pedestrian access gate at the western side of Murrayfield, which joins up nicely with Dunne’s Stores car park. This gate can now be used as a safe drop off/pick up point for players and will also provide ideal access for walkers. This improvement will lessen the traffic and footfall through the adjacent Dan Corkery Place estate, making it much safer. We feel this is a positive step forward and one that the residents of the estate, who are our neighbours, will appreciate.
